Oaking Beers
Basic Instructions

Oak Chippings for flavour.

Ensure all equipment is thoroughly sterilised prior to use.

Follow your recipe and the usual methods and just add the following steps.

Allow 1-15grams of chippings per 25 litres of beer.

Add  Oak chippings directly to the primary fermentation vessel. 10grams per 25 litres is a good average. Personal preference and experience will determine your preferred quantity.
Stir gently into the ‘must’ to distribute the chippings.
After primary fermentation is complete the beer should be syphoned off leaving the chippings and sediment behind.
Continue the usual process until beer is bottled.
Sit back and enjoy your ‘Oaked’ wines.

Chippings for aging.
(Use Beechwood Chippings for best results)

Ferment beer in the usual manner.
After primary fermentation is complete, add the chippings, preferably in a small muslin bag.
Prior to bottling syphon or filter the chippings out of the beer to allow the beer to fully clear.

Enjoy your Beer!
